to: %fn% %ln% - %cn% email blast - Golf Course Report - Flushing salts from greens

As summer wears on we tend to see higher and higher levels of salt accumulate it the root zone and as you know salt is very detrimental to turf growth. We regularly monitor the salt level in our greens and a couple times a year, we need to flush the salts out of the rootzone. We do this by running water for about 1 hour and push this water throught the root zone and out the drainage in the greens. As this water moves through, it not only helps to lower the salt levels by washing it out, it increases oxygen by pulling oxygen down into the root zone as it passes through. This is a regular agronomic practice for golf courses. The down side of this practice is the greens will be a little soft for a couple of days. We flushed the greens today and with our higher temperatures I do not think you will notice much difference.

We will be sanding and spraying fertilizer on our faiways next week next week.
